The Challenge:

Within its Innovative Technology Solutions (ITS) department, leaders recognized a growing disconnection among team members, leading to challenges in collaboration, communication, and overall engagement. Previous attempts to address these issues using personality tests and strengths assessments fell short of achieving the desired impact. Determined to bridge the gaps and improve team dynamics, Insperity sought a solution that would transform their work environment.

The Core Strengths Solution

In 2018, leaders of the ITS department attended the Core Strengths Results Through Relationships Workshop, where they completed the SDI 2.0 assessment and learned how to build trust, generate commitment, and drive results by fostering strong relationships within their teams using Relationship Intelligence (RQ). The experience proved highly impactful, leaving a lasting impression on Aaron Wergeland, Manager of Business Applications Development, who recalls saying after the workshop, “This is the solution to our problems. We need to take this back to Insperity, back to the department.”

After developing a business case for Core Strengths, Aaron and other ITS leaders attended the two-day facilitator workshop to gain the skills and knowledge needed to deliver the workshop  in-house at Insperity. Over the last five years, Aaron and his team have successfully trained and facilitated workshops for over 500 employees, embedding RQ into the department’s culture. The success of the program prompted requests to facilitate the workshop to other teams, including the corporate HR group, and even extending to the company’s summer internship program.

The Benefit

RQ has been woven into the DNA of the ITS department’s culture, influencing its language and fostering effective communication. Through the implementation of quarterly workshops, new employees and teams consistently experience the program, ensuring its continuous impact. When discussing the ROI of the program, Wergeland says, “I can tell you that where we once had some dysfunctions on teams through communication, it’s not there. So, because you don’t have that and you have more clear communications, the teams are getting more accomplished in a smoother way.”

Additionally, as hiring practices changed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ability to deliver workshops virtually enabled broader participation from remote employees across the country and to be spread out over several weeks, allowing participants to apply their learnings and share their experiences overtime, promoting continual learning and growth.

Innovation that Connects and Dedication to Success

The continued innovation of Core Strengths’ solutions has allowed the Insperity team to enhance their ability to foster effective communication and collaboration by introducing RQ insights into employees’ daily flow-of-work through the Core Strengths plug-ins with the popular communication platforms of Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Moreover, their recent addition of the Coach module to the Core Strengths Platform will help leaders be more effective in their coaching conversations. “I’m excited to incorporate that. And once I have a full understanding of how it works, I’ll be able to then train all of the other leaders within our department on how to use that to have even more effective one-on-ones with their team members,” say Wergeland.
